5 Steps to Clearer Skin
All you have to know are the five simple steps that make up what basically happens in just about any type of facial there is available. Once you have them down, you can have fun in your self-pampering with the different twists that you can throw in with each step.
Here is my personalized 5 step guide for at - home facial with the most effective DIY tips and home remedies that you can apply to each one:
Clean
First of all, remove all makeup from your face (if you're wearing any). If you don't already have a makeup remover at hand, here's a DIY video on making your own makeup remover wipes using baby shampoo and baby oil:
Once your face is makeup free, wash your face, ears, and neck with a good facial cleanser. If you don't have any, here are a few natural substitutes you can find in your kitchen that will make great cleansers:
- Egg Yolk - A natural cleanser and toner. Just apply the yolk on your face, allow to dry, and wash off.
- Papaya - Not only does it add glow and hydrates your skin, using papaya as your facial cleanser helps thoroughly remove your face of dirt.
- Banana - An amazing natural cleanser and moisturizer that also reduces signs of aging with continuous use.
- Mango - A great natural deep cleanser and toner that also has anti-aging properties.
- Orange/Orange Peel - Rich in Vitamin C, using orange pulp, juice, or even just the peel makes your skin begin to glow.
- Calamansi - A natural cleanser and bleacher and works as good as a lemon at a fraction of the cost.
- Tomato - Helps in nourishing and brightening your skin along with making an even better cleanser and toner when used with Calamansi.
Exfoliate
Use the tips of your fingers to gently rub your exfoliating scrub around your face in circular motions. Continue scrubbing for about 5 minutes and leave on for another couple minutes before washing off.
If you don't have an exfoliating facial scrub, the natural cleansers I've mentioned above or your regular facial wash can work just as effectively when mixed with:
- Sugar - Not only does it feel good on your skin, sugar crystals also contain glycolic acid which boosts cell regeneration stripping your skin of dead cells and boosting the production of new ones.
- Sea Salt - If you have dry skin, this is the best thing to use to exfoliate. Sea salt rejuvenates your skin and is also amazing at helping your skin retain its moisture.
Steam
You can steam your face a number of ways. Two of the guaranteed ways to do so is with a bowl of hot water and a towel OR using a hot washcloth.
With the bowl of hot water, be sure to place your face at least 5 inches from the steam with a towel over your head. Do this for 5 to 10 minutes lifting your face to breath every so often. If you are planning to use a washcloth all you have to do is to dampen the cloth with hot water and press it to your face until it cools down, and then repeating the process 3-4 more times.
Mask
